If my Elf name is Pudding Festive-Fingers, hers is Pixie McJingles. There is probably no quicker way to my heart than making me laugh. When you include me in the funny-ness? We’re just plain friends. That’s Malory. (Oh my gosh, Mal, I’m such a nerd. I STILL giggle at this!) If you ever stumble across an Christmas Elf name game, just do it. (Then tell me your elf name.)
A few months after Malory found out she was having a girl, I found myself staring at a picture in our dining room wall. Our previous roommate hung a framed snapshot of the verse Jeremiah 29:11.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Honestly, I think it’s an absolutely awesome verse! But it’s one that’s been a said…a whole lot. Sometimes when something is repeated and repeated the same exact way, for me, it starts to lose its punch.
I just stared at this verse. And that day I thought of that still-in-her-mommy’s-tummy little girl. “She has so much to look forward to! She is so wonderfully designed for this time and space! Does she know that yet?”
As I had been written songs for these babies, I wanted all the words to be meaningful. But there seemed to be something very specific about the plans laid out for this girl in this day and time. I don’t have insight into what those plans look like. I don’t have to. As I wrote the verses and chorus for this song, I was very intentional about the words for Hadley stemming from Jeremiah 29:11.
You are a treasure, a grand work of art
Fashioned to know our great God within your heart
Don’t stop dreaming when the lights grow dim
There is hope no matter what rolls in
Trust from the center of your heart
And not with your eyes
Love will always rise
Great things – they’re coming – because God loves you
He has planned blessing for you your whole life through
Even writing this, I’m overwhelmed. Mal and Kory, I know Hadley wasn’t exactly ‘planned’. But boy was she ever! I pray that as she walks through this life, she will hold steadfast to the One Who loves her and live out of the strength of the One who is seen with the heart. As you care for her, so much more let the Unseen One care for you.
