Something triggered in me as I watched the faces of the children at Sandy Hook on the news when everything happened. Their faces white with fear, and eyes overwhelmed with confusion. Who was there to console them? What thoughts were going through their minds? What did they have to believe in?
I don’t have children. But I had recently written a few lullabies for friends and their new babies. As songwriter, I wanted to write something that I could sing for my own kids some day. With the Sandy Hook news stories everywhere, the desire to do something to prepare the hearts of littles to have hope in times of danger kept burning.
I couldn’t just keep these songs limited to my own community. Now I’m on a mission to bring quality, meaningful music to children’s hearts to prepare them to live brave, peaceful lives.
I recorded three songs here in South Bend, IN with the help of some extraordinary friends and musicians. And now I’ve got a plan to record these original lullabies without holding anything back when it comes to quality and effort on a large scale.
I’ll keep you updated on how you can be a part of the Roots & Wings project!
